Writing
It is common for students to have wonderful ideas but difficulty putting them onto paper. There are many possible reasons for this, including dysgraphia, the physical action of writing; executive function weakness, which can include trouble organizing and prioritizing; and lack of explicit writing skills, such as prewriting and outlining. When I work with a student who is having trouble with writing, we apply various strategies which often take the mystery and confusion out of the writing process. By evaluating what is getting in the way of writing “output”, we substitute methods that are more effective for the individual student.
